Each rug in this collection is hand-knotted by Berber artisans in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains from natural wool, with tight double knots that give it a thick, velvety pile. Every piece is made to order, in the size you need.
What makes a Beni Mrirt rug different
Beni Mrirt rugs are often compared with Beni Ourain rugs, and they share the same Berber roots. The difference is in the hand: a Mrirt rug is knotted more tightly, so it is heavier, denser and smoother underfoot, with a pile that keeps its shape for years. Designs range from classic lines on ivory to modern abstract patterns in soft or bold colours. Because each rug is knotted by hand, small variations in pattern and size (up to 2–3 inches) are part of the craft.
That density takes longer to weave and uses more wool, which is why a Beni Mrirt rug costs more than a Beni Ourain of the same size.
How your rug is made
Once you order, the weaver prepares the wool, sets the loom to your size and knots the rug row by row. The finished rug is washed and dried in the mountain air before it is checked, photographed and shipped. Custom rugs take about 3–4 weeks to make (4–6 weeks for rugs larger than 8×10 ft), then usually 3–5 business days to reach the USA or Canada, 2–4 to Europe and the UK and 5–10 to the rest of the world by FedEx or DHL Express, with free shipping to every country.

Where a Beni Mrirt rug works best
A Mrirt rug is made for the rooms where you spend the most time barefoot: the living room, the bedroom, a reading corner. Its weight keeps it flat on hard floors, and its soft pile adds warmth and quiet to modern, minimalist and luxury interiors. An 8×10 or 9×12 ft rug anchors a living room; a 6×9 ft rug fits under a queen bed.
Caring for a Beni Mrirt rug
Vacuum regularly on a low setting without a beater bar, and turn the rug every few months so it wears evenly. Blot spills straight away with a clean, damp cloth; for a deep clean, use a professional rug cleaner. Some shedding in the first weeks is normal for a new hand-knotted wool rug.
Beni Mrirt rug FAQ
What is the difference between Beni Mrirt and Beni Ourain rugs?
Both are hand-knotted Berber wool rugs. Beni Mrirt rugs are knotted more tightly, so they are denser, heavier and smoother; Beni Ourain rugs have a looser, shaggier pile.
