Each rug in this collection is hand-knotted by Berber women on wooden looms from 100% natural wool, then washed for several days until the pile feels silky underfoot. Every piece is made to order, in the size you need.
What makes a Beni Ourain rug different
A traditional Beni Ourain rug has an ivory or cream wool background with hand-drawn lines in black or brown: diamonds, zigzags and open grids that are never perfectly symmetrical. The pile is deep and dense, so the rug is warm in winter and soft enough to sit on. Because each rug is knotted by hand, no two are exactly alike, and small variations in line and size (up to 2–3 inches) are part of the craft.
Alongside the classic black-on-ivory designs, our weavers also make Beni Ourain rugs with blue, pink, green or multicolour patterns for homes that want a little more colour.
How your rug is made
Once you order, the weaver prepares the wool, sets the loom to your size and knots the rug row by row. The finished rug is washed and dried in the mountain air before it is checked, photographed and shipped. Custom rugs take about 3–4 weeks to make (4–6 weeks for rugs larger than 8×10 ft), then usually 3–5 business days to reach the USA or Canada, 2–4 to Europe and the UK and 5–10 to the rest of the world by FedEx or DHL Express, with free shipping to every country.

Where a Beni Ourain rug works best
The neutral ivory and black palette suits Scandinavian, minimalist, modern and boho interiors. An 8×10 or 9×12 ft rug anchors a living room seating area; a 6×9 ft rug sits well under a queen bed; smaller 3×5 and 4×6 ft rugs warm up a bedside, a reading corner or a nursery. For hallways, see our Moroccan runner rugs.
Caring for a wool rug
Vacuum regularly on a low setting without a beater bar, and turn the rug every few months so it wears evenly. Blot spills straight away with a clean, damp cloth; for a deep clean, use a professional rug cleaner. Some shedding in the first weeks is normal for a new hand-knotted wool rug.
